Modena is set on the beach front site in the increasingly popular Thai resort of Pranburi near Hua Hin, home of Thailand’s revered King Bhumibol Annuaya.
The form of the building is largely derived by addressing the sight lines of the site, while avoiding an adjacent unsightly hotel. GFAB’s rotation of living spaces captures the best of both, the mountain views to the rear of the site and the sea views to the front. Each “loft” apartment opens up completely to effectively become a shaded terrace.
The development comprises both condominium/apartment units and garden villas (in line with local planning constraints) which, when landscaped with water and natural foliage, form a layer of landscape for the apartments to look upon.
The nature/ aesthetic of the building is delivered from traditional seaside living and captures the essence of ”barefoot luxury”, a portrayed lifestyle that was to form the backbone to the marketing and branding strategy. After taking the project to tender stage with GFAB, the developer was beset by financial problems in the 2008 crisis and elected to undertake the project himself.
