Set on a long strip of private beach close to one of Samui’s tourist attractions (Laem Sor Pagoda) this house was subject to a near fanatical interpretation of rather stringent planning law, which required that no single block of building be more than 75m2, that no roof was over 6m high and that the entire house was set on a single storey/level.
The design took inspiration from local houses found in the nearby fishing villages which are typical defined as a timber volume rising over a masonry base, often left unpainted/bare render. Here, we employ an off form concrete base and a timber sheathed roof to allude to the local precedent. A simple material palette is used to define all interior spaces.
GFAB went on to select all art and furniture for the project and have recently completed an addition of a kids bunk room to cope with the owners ever growing family of small children and friends scheduled for completion this Christmas.
